I bought this refrigerator 1 1/2 ago. I really like it except for the ice machine. It has never produced a lot of ice and it was slow to come out. I've had to call 3 times to have the ice machine repaired! Ice builds up into a huge chunk and will not work.
Each time, the repair person looks at it, says the whole fridge has to be defrosted and then they come back to fix it. The third time it couldn't be fixed. So now I'm waiting for Lowes to contact me about getting a replacement. It's been nothing but a big hassle!

Defect in this ice maker
Samsung Everything
3/21/2019
I purchased this refrigerator Oct 2017. It is a great fridge and beautiful. We love everything about this fridge EXCEPT the ice maker. Within a couple of months, the ice maker started to freeze/frost up and stopped producing ice. I have had a Samsung tech out at least 2 times, just called for a third. If you search the web, you will see that everyone has this issue. Hopefully the newer refrigerators being shipped have been fixed. The problem is the ice maker in the top refrigerator section and too much warmer air is reaching the ice maker box. With the humidity from the fridge, it creates condensation that then becomes frost/ ice build up and shuts down ice making. My ice maker has been replaced and caulked, and I still have this issue every few weeks. Then the ice maker has to be thawed and dried out to re-start the ice maker. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE SAMSUNG. You almost have a perfect refrigerator. Minus the ice issue, this is a 5 star fridge!

Rest of fridge is fine. Ice Maker is TERRIBLE. Malfunctioned within a few months. Samsung wouldn't cover repairs, so we just dealt with it frequently freezing up. I would chip it out with a knife. 2 years later it finally quit...$300 dollars later...Consider the fridge is over 2k & they advertise the ice maker as a power house, it should consistently work. As a side note, we bought 4 Samsung appliances at the same time. 2 of the 4 needed expensive service within 2 years.

Really like the unit and the extra frig drawer and the drawer inside the freezer too. However, we're noticing moisture developing between the doors just in the middle so serviceman is on his way out next week. Small plastic piece broke off of one of the handles (kind of an end cap) and they won't send it to me - they have to send the whole handle . . . big waste.

Unbelievable that Samsung is able to sell this, knowing there are significant design flaws with the ice maker. I've spent as much time attempting to defrost the ice maker as I have spent with it functioning. There is a service bulletin out regarding the issue, and a class action lawsuit. Samsung chat support is very unhelpful, and insist I pay a service fee to have the issue assessed. Unless Samsung steps up to make this right, I will never own another Samsung product.

We replaced all our appliances this year (June 2018). I waited to write a review until we'd used them all for a while.
A friend had this frig. She raved about its convenient layout and how much she loved the middle drawer. I was hesitant. Who really needs another drawer? Plus, it's not an inexpensive purchase. Bit the bullet anyway on her recommendation. WOAH! She was right. I, too, LOVE the configuration, its ease of use, its ability to keep food at proper temps making my groceries last longer, its cooling system that prevent bad smells, its quiet personality and its dignified look. Yes--the one drawback is exterior fingerprinting. That is a problem, no doubt. However, vinegar and water or just plain soapy water works well to control them--clean the doors often. I'd certainly recommend this frig.

Loud Defrosting
NO LONGER A FAN
10/13/2018
I purchased this refrigerator a month ago and it is the loudest I have ever experienced. I submitted a claim, the technician confirmed the was nothing wrong with the unit and the sounds I hear are a result of the refrigerator defrosting and ice dropping to the bottom of the pan. I find this to be an issue and flaw for which apparently will not be corrected or addressed by Samsung which is disappointing and sad. I am sometimes startled at night due to the loud crashing and knocking sounds coming from the refrigerator. This is not my norm and it's disheartening that the company feels this is acceptable and not try to remedy the issue. I own many Samsung products (cell phone, smartwatch, tv's, washer, dryer, all kitchen appliances), so to say I am usually a fan is an understatement; however, this experience has been a very disappointing one. A customer service rep called to obtain my service feedback and I was placed on hold and she never returned, the following day I receive another call from another rep who cut me off while I was speaking. I expect more of Samsung and this experience has really enlightened me to rethink any future purchases.

I bought a fridge only about a year and a half ago and already it's having issues. Biggest complaint is that the ice maker hardly works. The ice maker is constantly getting jammed as the ice freezes in blocks before it can enter the dispenser. To fix this we have to take out the ice compartment and chip the ice blocks off, difficult to do and annoying. The ice maker also leaks into our fridge. The storage space is ok but not efficient for tall containers or items in the fridge. All in all I say not worth $3000, I won't be purchasing Samsung again.

Dont throw away your ice trays yet
badbird1998

So we have had this fridge coming up on 3 years. Each year we have the ice maker worked on. Yes it makes a lot in 24 hours but it doesn't hold enough. Try filling 2 sports bottles see where that takes you. So disappointed in the ice maker it made me write this. What isn't in the specs and description is. You will need to take your hair dryer to the little eye in the back at least once a month to keep it from freezing over so it will still make ice. The ice comes out wet. Also it gets lodged at the drop point so it gets clogged. Easy fix get the hairdryer out again. It makes 10lbs of ice a day but only stores 2 so don't throw your ice cube trays away yet. especially if your kids have sports. I would highly recommend you buy a good hair dryer for the ice maker monthly maintenance you will need to do. Also when its time to change the filter it shuts the ice maker down ( Easy fix is pull it out count to 10 then reinsert it) This will hold you till the new filter arrives every 6 months look up that cost. We do actually like the storage capacity and the different set ups you can do. The middle sliding storage is awesome for drinks keeps them from opening the doors and staring at something that won't appear. I would give this great reviews if it wasn't for the ice maker is so disappointing I would go back to our last one but the stainless doesn't match our appliances. Hope this helps.

Some thoughts on the 27+ cu. ft. 4-Door French Door Food Showcase Refrigerator RF28JBEDBSR/AA after three days or so…
SpiritWolfNJ
5/31/2018
Upsides:
All in all, third day, I like the box. It's spacious and it's got enough "horsepower" to cool properly at the current ambient temps. For now, in the NYC northeast, it's about 78 degrees.
Also, about 8 hours into the wake-up cycle from the installation, it's making ice cubes. Even with multi-stage filtering on the water systems, the first plastic-y cubes and ice water were tossed; that 5 gallons of waste water isn't fun but it's needed.
I like the lighting; can't miss a thing with the transparent shelving and LED lights. Very nice.
Also nice is the interior room; it's taking the place of my GE Signature unit from 2001 or so (might be 2002 I'm really only replacing it as it was heading to the showers; it drips when the humidity goes up as the mag seals are failing and I can't locate replacements. They're torn and flopping and, well, it's just that time).
The other plus is its size. The GE was 21ish square feet and this unit is over 27. That extra space is going to freezer and fridge and I needed (wanted) both. That way the failed upright freezer that was in the garage is now "sleeping wid da fishes".
I'm going to miss the ice maker on that beast; it was the best and NEVER had an issue till the end (sometimes I'd have to shake the box to let some of the ice cubes drop from the cooling unit. That kept the wire bale up and stop production and that was 15 years after I got the thing :)
So, the downsides to the box:
Temp controls are good, but temperature uniformity is shaky.
Using an infrared thermometer, choosing a -0 on the freezer and 36 in the refrigerator side yielded a +5 and +39 on the inside panels (towards the back of the refrigerator near the metal panels). This was about 12 hours into the cooling. That should be enough time to get rough results with the masses I was cooling.
Next day I choose -7 and +34 and read the temps some 6 hours later with a -3/4 and a +36/37.
That would (barely) be cool enough but I read an increase of about 7+ degrees in the door shelf. That brought the milk to about 40+ degrees and that's in "the zone".
I'll check again but I don't think that's a good sign so I'll see after another day of cooling.
As an aside, the center cooler (flex door) has been set to it's coldest setting and it's above +29; things are defrosting. Slowly to be sure, but they are. It's warmer to the front of the fridge than towards the back. Something to think about.
5 degrees differential or so? Good only for temp items.
That's a common thread. I do wonder about the insulation in the door areas. They seem insufficient to keep the heat out.
Those are my current observations at the moment.
The ice maker is making ice that's not tasting as much like plastic anymore and the cold-water dispenser is doing its job properly. I can draw about 30+ oz of water before it gets to ambient and that's good enough at these 78 degrees or so (it's getting warmer this end of May, 2018.
NOTE: The ice maker is VERY loud. People outside of the kitchen can hear it all the way to the front door and beyond and that's about 12 meters or so (about 36 feet) and around a door facing the other way!
Refrigerator Shelves:
In the default config? No way. They're good looking in the showroom, gotta move them when you get them home. They're usable but I had to sacrifice one of the shelves. I opted for the single-shelf, not the split one. Dunno why, just thought it would be better going forward. Just in case. Probably not the best option for stability reasons (as the manual says it can "disjoint" (my interpretation of the manual)).
Door Shelves:
Kinda sucky. That's the way to describe them.
Not so flexible in positioning and on the icemaker/water dispenser side, almost non-existent.
The right dual-door side has large enough shelving, but the positioning of them is just bad. No other way to explain it. You can't change them. Period. Yes, lower part of the external dual-door can hold two (yes two) gallons of milk, but the shelving above can't be arraigned so I can put my sodastream bottles above it. And the topmost one? Eggs. That's about it. Meh…
Looking at the manual, I see this on page 28:
1. Door Bins
Door Bins (1), Moving tray Bins (3)
To remove - Simply lift the bin up and pull straight out.
To relocate - Slide it in above the desired location and push down until it stops.
Door Bins
(2)
To remove - Take the right side of the bin out by lifting it at an angle along the guide, and then take the left side out by pulling it from the door.
To relocate - Slide it into the original location and push down until it sticks
Umm, sure, I can remove them…relocating them? Can't seem to manage that at all.
Move them? Stick them? REALLY? Jeeze…
Postmortem:
It's about the size, silly! The box is a beast and I like it... I think. Takes some getting used to.
I'll post more as things progress

Prepare for ice maker problems

I really want to love my refrigerator. I mean it's cool and there's nice lighting and all. The problem for me is that the ice maker has always been slow which I had seen prior but yesterday it quit altogether. In looking up fixes, I find hundreds if not thousands of on line complaints of the same thing. I've included a link which has 42 pages as of yesterday of people with problems due to ice maker. If you are considering purchase, just be aware that you may have to settle for buying your ice in bags. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/Kitchen/highlight/false/page/1/thread-id/284

Bad Ice Maker
JohnC1234
4/8/2018
Over all this is a decent fridge when the ice maker is working. I have it now 6 months and just request service for the second time, for the same issue. It appears that the ice maker has a known leaking problem (according to the first technician that came to fix it the first time). The ice maker overfills the tray causing the water to leak everywhere in the ice maker compartment. The water then freezes causing the ice maker to stop dumping ice and all the mechanisms to freeze. As I said, this is the second time it has happened during the 6 months I have owned the fridge. This is just a poorly designed ice maker. As long as you don't care if the fridge makes and dispense ice, it isn't a bad unit.

I have purchased Samsung appliances in December 2017, and by March 2018, the ice maker has to be re-built. I literally have empty out my refrigerator to power off my refrigerator so the ice maker can be re-built. This is not ideal when you have a family of 4 in the house and have to take food off temperature and will not be food-safe temperatures. Thanks Samsung for this! I will not recommend, nor purchase anymore Samsung appliances. Be careful when purchasibg and read reviews very carefully.
